I love a tablecloth to dress up my kitchen table. And by “Dress Up”, I mean hide the crayon, permanent marker, scissor marks and scratches and dings that make my table look like I let the kids use it to go sledding on a bed of rocks with it. I found that I was CONSTANTLY fighting with it and the kids because every time they moved away from the table (because kids just slide themselves out instead of pushing their chair back) and they drag the tablecloth with them. I was constantly battling to keep the cloth on the table and the dishes from flying. What could be done to create a non-slip tablecloth (besides purchasing a plastic cloth with a felt back – not my favorite!)?
That’s when I remembered the sticky tape that I used to keep my rugs in place. YES! This would be the thing I needed to stop the tablecloth madness! Here’s what I did:
2. Placed the rug tape on the table (per the directions on the package), with the highest “traffic areas” (where my kids sit) getting the most attention.
3. Layed out exactly where I wanted the tablecloth and made sure it was centered on the table
4. Lifted one side at a time and removed the backing of the tape, placing the cloth back down and gently pressing on it to remove the wrinkles.
5. It peels off quite easily, but doesn’t slide around!
For a little extra oomph, you can run a medium heat iron over the tablecloth where the taped edges are. Keep in mind that the more times you remove the cloth to shake off or wash, the less sticky the tape becomes. It’s designed to stick and stay.
What are your tips and tricks to get your fabric tablecloth to stay put? Is this something that you think you would try? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
