Once I made the decision to move from my current home of eleven years, it was time to decide where we were going. I love the town that we currently lived but there were not a lot of options to downsize in to a townhouse, which is what I am looking for. There are a lot of things to consider when looking at a location for my family, and a school district that provided full day kindergarten was a big one. My Princess K had missed the age cut-off for Kindergarten last year by less than a month, and she had waited patiently for this year to pass so that she could go to “big girl school” like her sister. She has participated in a full day pre-school program for the last several years, and she is more than ready. There was no way that I was going to take this away from her.
Once I started my online research, I was FLOORED to see that there was no central list that detailed this information. Even from the DuPage Regional Office of Education that oversees are 42 school districts in the county. Nothing.
As you can only image, this frustrated me beyond no end. How was I supposed to know where to look for a new home if I was completely clueless about what the schools had to offer?? Not to mention that, due to the population here and the overlapping boundary lines, some towns were serviced by more than one school district that had different options for Kindergarten. It was maddening!
I’ve spent a considerable amount of time and made a ton of phone calls (yes – I called all 42 districts in DuPage County), and have developed the following lists. Not only for myself, but for the next family who is moving within the county or relocating here, so that everyone has this information. It’s current as of March, 2014 and is specific to the 2014-2015 school year. As with anything, it is subject to change without warning or notice. But hopefully it will give you a place to start if you are looking for a full day kindergarten in DuPage County.
Please click spreadsheets to go to printable PDFs. If you are looking for additional website information for each District, head to the DuPage Regional Office of Education website, where they have a comprehensive list of links to every district website.
In addition, I’ve listed the school districts that do NOT offer full day Kindergarten:
The remaining school districts in DuPage County do not have elementary schools in them, and aren’t relevant for the purpose of this article (but I’ve included them so all 42 districts are accounted for):
