With the weather turning warmer (or trying to if you live in the Chicago area) and my shorts and bathing suit calling my name from the bottom of my dresser drawers, thoughts of healthier eating float around in my head. That’s why I was thrilled when I was selected to participate in the #MyMarianos Healthy Eating Shopportunity from the Collective Bias® Social Fabric® Community that I am a member of. While this shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias® and Mariano’s #cbias #SocialFabric, all of the opinions and the pictures are 100% my own.
I am always looking for ways to improve my family’s eating habits. I know that fresh food versus processed food is a key component of that. Shopping at Mariano’s felt like they wanted to be my partner from the first moment I walked in the store. Seeing the Juicing Station that offered fruit and veggie smoothies right inside the front door, throughout the massive produce department and different stations where you could get pre-made meals to eat there or to take home with you, everything was focused on FRESH foods.
I was thrilled to see how gigantic the produce department was at Mariano’s. They had all different types of exotic fruits and vegetables that were priced in a way that allowed us to try new things. And the basics like strawberries and bananas were lower priced than the big box store I normally shop at. I loved that there was a mixed salad that included baby bok choy – something that is a great alternative to eating spinach or kale all the time but is hard to find in a ready-made salad. Everywhere I turned there was something new to look at; the sushi bar with a huge eating area, the enormous salad bar, the pre-made sandwiches, the hot food to go section. I could have spent all day, wandering around and looking at everything. You can see pictures of my entire shopping experience HERE.
My goal is to move towards eating a cleaner diet. I love cookies, snacks, and treats of any kind. I also love quick and easy since I am a busy mom who is constantly juggling a hectic schedule. I’ve discovered that I can have the treats that I like, in moderation, if I am eating more of a diet that is rich in fruits, veggies and learner proteins or meat alternatives. For my family, it’s about making the healthy stuff taste as good as the unhealthy stuff, and presenting it in a way that makes it beautiful and appealing on the plate.
Look how pretty our dinner was that night:
Princess K loved her meal so much that she cleaned her plate (not a common thing) and went back for seconds on her fruit!
Princess M’s school lunch the next day was full of goodies from Mariano’s too!
Mariano’s has a great website that you can look to see what’s on sale before you even leave the house, and download coupons. Plus it’s full of new content and ideas on a weekly basis. Once we located the Reward Card kiosk, the process to sign up was quick and simple. Despite this store being 45 minutes away from my house, I am excited to go back again soon. After talking with a store employee, I was super thrilled to hear that there are plans to build one in the next town over from me – making it 15 minutes or less to get there!
Eating healthy can be challenging. But with Mariano’s on my side, I know that I’ll be summer ready in no time!
